GIRLS, GIRLS, GIRLS!

This spring, I’ll be playing Tehreem in Avalanche Theatre’s Next Draft workshop of Girls, girls, girls!

Written by Aisha Hamid

Directed by Alex Mallory

Synopsis:

Five Pakistani girl-mothers in their late 60s go to group therapy for the first time in their lives. They play South Asian childhood games at a playground to connect with their inner child. This play is about women gathering to say the quiet things out loud and a collective mourning and celebration of girlhood, womanhood and motherhood. How do we continue to live when the most important parts of our lives are over? What do we do in the absence of the thing that defines us?

Work Hard, Have Fun, Make History

I will also be understudying Actor 3 in the Chicago premiere of Work Hard, Have Fun, Make History!

Directed by Tina El Gamal

A catalog of all the possible phone calls that exist. A play that is not about Amazon, not about Jeff Bezos and certainly not about Elon Musk.

From five-time Obie winner Clubbed Thumb’s 2023 Summerworks festival comes reid tang’s experimental dark comedy where chaos, alienation, and machines collide. A genre-bending play that dials into the absurdity of capitalism and doesn’t hang up.

Hi, I’m Maliha!

I am a first generation South Asian American creative from Chicago, IL. Music, theatre, and writing are my passions, and I’m looking forward to bringing one of many fresh perspectives into an ever-evolving industry.

I believe that creation is a radical act against systems of oppression. I want to utilize my voice to help enhance the representation of marginalized artists, especially those with ethnocultural ties to the Global South, inspiring positive change in public ideology and legislation. I’d like to help create new stories, while also retelling classics with deeper consideration.
